Sawbench

Terms of use

Last updated 8 November 2026

Plain terms for a small tool. Using Sawbench means accepting them.

What Sawbench is

You upload photos of a piece of furniture. Software estimates its construction and produces a build plan: overall dimensions, a cut list, joinery, a lumber and hardware list, and a set of shop drawings. Access is currently invite-only and free while in preview.

The plans are estimates, drawn from photographs. A photo does not contain the measurements of the thing it shows; everything in a plan is inferred from proportion, context and typical practice. Treat every number as a considered starting point, not a measurement.

Check the critical dimensions yourself before you cut. Material is expensive, and a plan that is 15 mm out will not announce itself. Where the software is unsure it says so — those warnings are the most useful part of the output, and they are there to be read rather than dismissed.

Safety

Woodworking involves sharp tools, heavy stock and machines that do not forgive lapses. A plan from this tool is not a substitute for your own judgement about whether a design is sound, whether a joint will carry the load, or whether an operation is safe on your machines. Structural work, anything that will bear weight above a person, and anything built to a regulated standard need a qualified human's sign-off. You remain responsible for what you build and how you build it.

What you own

Your photos stay yours. The plans generated from them are yours too — build from them, sell what you build, modify them, pass them to a client or a joiner. No licence back to us is claimed over either, beyond what is needed to store your files and show them to you.

If we ever want to show your work as an example, you will be asked first, by a person.

What is expected of you

Limits

Analyses are capped per account and across the service as a whole, because each one costs real money to run. Hitting a cap produces a clear message saying which one. The caps move as capacity allows.

Availability

This is preview software run by a very small operation. It may be slow, briefly down, or changed without notice. Features may be removed. There is no uptime commitment and no support obligation — though in practice an email usually gets an answer.

Liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for wasted material, mis-cut stock, lost time, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of Sawbench or of a plan it produced. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you have paid for the service — which, during the free preview, is nothing.

This is the ordinary bargain for a free preview tool: it is offered in good faith and improved continuously, and the decision to cut material is yours.

Ending it

You can stop at any time and ask for your account and everything in it to be deleted — see Privacy. Access may be withdrawn for abuse, for an attempt to break the service, or if the preview closes; if that happens for any reason other than abuse, you will be given a chance to export your plans first.

Changes

These terms may change as the product does. The date at the top changes with them, and a material change is emailed to anyone with an account.
